Working with insights gathered from the TK-01 community and the founders’ own inspirations, our combined teams collaborated closely to define and validate the total service experience of TK-02 use and ownership over time. Service design in turn drove efforts to define, design and develop machine features, smartphone app, all aspects of use, interface, and e-commerce. The resulting product delivers intuitive hardware and UI for making basics right alongside deep customization, tracking, helpful prompts for things like refilling beans, user profiles, roaster-provided brew parameters, and remote control.

Terra Kaffe’s values extend far into TK-02’s packaging as well. In addition to safely, efficiently, and reliably carrying the product to its new owner, the act of opening and using the package is as considerate as the product itself. After releasing a custom clip mechanism, new owners literally unveil the product as they remove the packaging’s lid. What’s revealed is a new TK-02 and all the carefully arranged materials needed for successful placement, set up, and first use. A special insert containing fresh coffee beans is also included as a welcoming gesture and way to get started right away. The structure itself has been optimized for compact, lightweight shipping efficiency and low-energy, recoverable materials.
