Nascent Objects
Nascent Objects is an entirely new concept of how to design, build, sell and re-use consumer electronic products. Combining CAD tools, 3D printing of plastics and circuitry, and a library of electronic component modules, Nascent’s modular consumer electronics creation platform and marketplace enables creators to take their ideas from concept to finished, market-ready products in a matter of days. Another key aspect of the Nascent platform is that it allows consumers to easily upgrade or reuse component modules in products created using Nascent Objects.
We worked alongside Nascent Objects to test and refine the system, design the library of reusable component modules, and create finished pilot products using the platform. The first product is Droppler, a countertop water use monitor that uses sound to track water consumption, helping people to easily understand and adjust their daily water use habits.
Additional pilot products include CouCou, a birdhouse with an embedded motion sensor and camera to capture new inhabitants, and Head of Security, a smart home monitoring camera housed in a 3D printed sculptural bear head.
In 2016, Nascent Objects joined the team at Facebook’s Building 8, where it will continue on its mission to create hardware at a speed that’s more like software.
